No more Rambo?

Sylvester Stallone may be done with the Rambo franchise, and the rumored Rambo 5 may have been nothing more than just that.
The news originated from Sheryl Main, the publicist for The Expendables, who wrote on her blog that Stallone had dropped a “bombshell” on her a few months ago that there would be no Rambo 5 and that she’d update us on what his next project would be later.
Now Stallone is commenting on it as well, confirming that he’s almost positive that he’s done with the Rambo franchise. In a recent cover feature for Stallone's latest endeavor, The Expendables, a little time was spent trying to get the low-down on Rambo 5. After some prying it was clear that the project is not happening after all.

Despite the Rambo franchise being somewhat dead, Stallone will still be headlining action films. For example, The Expendables will be released this August. Stallone directed the film as well. The Expendables is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things arent quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

The synopsis doesn't seem to stray too far from that of a Rambo-path. Stallone fans can only hope that The Expendables will be successful at the box office so that they can extend that into a franchise with sequels. If that does in deed happen, The Expendables will be filling the action void in Stallone’s future and help push Rambo V into the green light. If this isn't the case though, Stallone could slowly be on his way out of Hollywood. We'll see what happens.

3-D Nightmares?

Samuel Bayer was annoyed to say the least when he was asked to covert A Nightmare on Elm Street to 3-D. He decided to go against the grain and release his movie without the upgrade.

This weekend A Nightmare on Elm Street will be arriving in theatres near you. Weird thing is though, you won't have the option of viewing it in 3-D. Why not? Everything from Alice in Wonderland to Clash of the Titans has been converted. Because of the uprising of 3-D films, are you surprised to not have the dimensional choice this time around?

When New Line initiated several conversations about converting A Nightmare on Elm Street to 3-D, ‘we pushed back,’ says director Samuel Bayer. ‘This was shot in 2-D and was meant to be shown in 2-D.’ He added, ‘Just like I don’t want to see a lot of great movies remade’ — alluding to the other Hollywood vogue — ‘I don’t want to see a lot of them in 3-D.’
3-D is all about money anyway! It is very nice to hear that a director is actually standing up for his vision. I applaud Bayer for not giving into the suits of Hollywood. There obviously is plenty of time for the money-grabbing 3D conversion trend down the road.

Muhammad stops by South Park.

Although South Park is usually known for curse words, last night South Park aired one of the most bleeped shows in television history. After the airing of last weeks cliff-hanger of an episode, the group Revolution Muslim posted a message earlier this week that warned the creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The group said "that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show."

The website posted a graphic photo of Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was killed in 2004 by an Islamic militant over a movie he had made that accused Islam of condoning violence against women. It also posted a link to a news article with details of a mansion in Colorado that Parker and Stone apparently own.

South Park censored out the word Muhammad and literally covered the closing episode with big black censored boxes. As of now, I don't know know if the cenors were because of the warning or if they were merely poking fun. I do know that if a Muslim group, or any group for that matter, sent me a picture of my house I would be a little more careful.
